On Lamoine’s Mud Creek Road, work on a striking structure in a hayfield has piqued interest among passers-by. Cars slow down. Some drivers stare and wave. Other emboldened souls pull over and ask property owner Herb Watson what the shingled building, featuring red stars and small stained glass windows, is meant to be. The longtime Mount Desert Island arborist calls his structure a barn. “I have had people say, ‘Is this a church?” he said, chuckling, one sunny day last week. Some ask, ‘Is this a house?’ One even said, ‘Well, it ought to be.’”
