Life Is a Bowl of Raspberries—Mariaville Couple Lovingly Farm Family Land
Last year Jimmy Barnes and Becky Rice produced a banner crop of 500 pints. They expect to pick about a third of that amount this season. The season usually lasts between three and four weeks. They picked the first batch of the year July 20. They sell the raspberries along with blueberries at a roadside stand at their Mariaville Road home. A rounded pint goes for $5. Their raspberries are also sold at a Mount Desert Island farm stand and occasionally at John Edwards Market in Ellsworth. CYNDI WOOD PHOTOS
