Clear skies paved the way for an exciting Solar Sprint contest at the Emerson School in Bar Harbor on May 13. Five teams of fifth and sixth-graders, whose cars were honored for speed, creativity and technical merit, qualified to participate in the Maine State Finals Junior Solar Sprint on Saturday, June 5 at the Owls Head Transportation Museum in Rockland. The Blue Avenger was by Evan Jeannotte, Sammy Murray, Aaron Boumil and Matt Curtis. Phil was by Kyle Lamson, Thomas Gallup and Pierce DiMauro. Black Lightening was by Pierce Vincenty, Chris Butler, Thibault Antoniou and Andrew Burdzel. Dumbo the Flying Duck was by Gabby Link, Chloe Vincenty, Grace Drennan and Carol Zhang.
