Seussical the Musical: Fine Acting and Accousical : The three major figures in Western fiction — Hamlet, Sherlock Holmes and The Cat in the Hat — have internal conflict in common. The most complex is The Cat in the Hat, a magical stranger who gets children out of one sort of trouble and into another. There’s a lot going on beneath that red-and-white top hat.

Southwest Harbor Town Meeting 2009 : Many people were pleased at the relatively short town meeting this year. Although it has been said that perhaps the fight has gone out of the residents, I tend to think that maybe the meeting was well organized, well managed by moderator Mark Campbell, and all of the articles were presented clearly and all questions answered to residents’ satisfaction. Wouldn’t it be nice to have that happen every year? A big thanks to all the residents who took the time to attend the meeting and actively participate in town affairs.

Water Main Break- April 9, 2009 : ELLSWORTH — City officials worked to repair a break in a water main at the intersection of Main Street and State Street this morning. “That’s the main that we replaced when we reconstructed Main Street, so that’s new, that’s from the ’90s,” said City Manager Michelle Beal. “It was completely unexpected.” Meanwhile, the city had to shut down the water main on State Street while the break is repaired, so all Ellsworth schools have closed for the day, she said.

Cianbro Makes First Shipment of Modules to Texas : BUCKSPORT — For some it was a symbol of hope for Maine’s manufacturing industry; for others it was simply an unusual sight on the Penobscot. Hundreds of spectators gathered along the riverbanks March 26 to see off the 354-foot barge The Columbia Boston and its cargo of four-story-tall oil refinery modules. The shipment included the first four of 53 massive modules bound for Port Arthur, Texas, from Cianbro’s Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer. —STAFF PHOTOS BY ALAN BAKER AND CYNDI WOOD

Snowdown and Chili Cookoff : The after school program at Beech Hill School, Otis, held a Snowdown Thursday, Feb. 12. The students, joined by the after school participants from the Hancock Grammar School, created five delicious batches of chili that were judged by a panel of four. The Party Chili, a rich red beef and bean concoction, won first place. The public supper also included hot dogs, baked beans, salads, cookies and brownies with many bringing food donations for the What’s For Suppa Food Pantry in Mariaville.
