BUCKSPORT — For some it was a symbol of hope for Maine’s manufacturing industry; for others it was simply an unusual sight on the Penobscot. Hundreds of spectators gathered along the riverbanks March 26 to see off the 354-foot barge The Columbia Boston and its cargo of four-story-tall oil refinery modules. The shipment included the first four of 53 massive modules bound for Port Arthur, Texas, from Cianbro’s Eastern Manufacturing Facility in Brewer. —STAFF PHOTOS BY ALAN BAKER AND CYNDI WOOD
